Principal's Message

Dear Miller School Families,
What a wonderful and exciting month October has been for our Miller Eagles! As we continue our journey Around the World in 180 Days, we spent the month focusing on our theme, “Eagles Uplift Each Other: Respect, Stand Tall, Fly High, and Say No to Bullying!” Throughout October, our students were reminded of the importance of kindness, friendship, respect, and inclusion. We continue to emphasize that every Eagle deserves to feel safe, welcomed, and valued in our school community.

October was filled with many memorable activities and celebrations! Our students and staff showed their support for Stand Up to Bullying by wearing blue and reinforcing the message that kindness matters and bullying has no place at Miller School. We also celebrated our newest members of Safety Patrol, recognizing these student leaders for their willingness to serve others and help keep our school safe. Our Eagles enjoyed School Picture Day, explored new adventures through our Book Fair, and participated in activities connected to the National Anthem Project. We also recognized Red Ribbon Week, encouraging students to make healthy, safe, and positive choices.

Beyond our special events, we are proud of the many ways our students demonstrate what it means to be a Miller Eagle each day. Whether offering a helping hand, including a classmate, showing respect, or standing up for someone else, these small acts of kindness make a BIG difference. We encourage our Eagles to continue practicing our SOAR expectations: Safe, Open-minded, Accountable, and Respectful.

As we turn the page to November, our theme will be “Grateful Eagles, Giving Heart.” We look forward to focusing on gratitude, generosity, and the importance of giving back to others. We will encourage our students to recognize the many things they are thankful for and discover how even the smallest acts of giving can make a meaningful difference in someone's life.

Thank you to our families and staff for your continued partnership and for reinforcing these important values both at school and at home. Together, we are helping our Eagles grow into compassionate, confident, and responsible leaders.

We wish all of our Miller families a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled Fall Break! Enjoy this special time with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for another wonderful month at Miller School!

Remember, Eagles stand tall, fly high, and uplift each other! Together We S.O.A.R.!

Resepectfully,
The Miller School Administration

Poetry

Our fourth-grade poets are exploring the creative world of concrete poetry! Students are discovering how poets use words, shapes, and images to bring their ideas to life, as seen here in examples from Ms. Godfrey's Class. In concrete poems, the arrangement of words on the page creates a shape that connects to the poem’s subject. As students experiment with this unique form of poetry, they are combining creativity and language to express their thoughts in imaginative ways. We are excited to see their poetic ideas take shape!

Pre-Halloween Creative Writing

Students in Ms. Riggs and Ms. Marco's class had some pre-Halloween creative writing fun with some High School Students. Students got to collaborate with their peers, and the high schoolers on writing a spooky story!

Idioms Parade

Bringing Idioms to Life! 5th graders on Team 1 celebrated their figurative language unit with an idiom parade. Students and teachers dressed up or illustrated the literal meaning of an idiom, then displayed it on the stage. Raining cats and dogs, the last straw, smart cookie, piece of cake...they had them all, and they had a ball!!

Black Light Lair

Mrs. Conover's art room transformed into a "black light lair" this week where students were able to create spooky, glowing artwork. Each class used fluorescent oil pastels to design pumpkins that glowed under the black lights. Students discussed line, shape and form when creating their pumpkins and learned about why certain colors glow when exposed to black light. It was a spooktacular week in the art room!

SOARING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

SOARing Beyond The Classroom
We are excited to launch a new initiative at Miller that celebrates the amazing accomplishments our students achieve outside of school! Our students are involved in so many meaningful activities in our community, and we want to recognize those moments that reflect dedication, perseverance, leadership, and growth.
This recognition is intended for significant accomplishments, achievements, or awards—such as earning a notable honor or being recognized by an organization, team, or program. Please fill out the SOARING FORM form below by the end of the month for the student to be recognized the following month.
Selected accomplishments will be highlighted on our TVs located throughout the building to help us celebrate our students’ hard work and successes. Thank you for partnering with us to lift up these special moments and help our Eagles continue to soar!

Spiders

Did you know there are spiders that can jump 8 times their size? It's true. The students in Mrs. Kusnirik's and Ms. Ims's science class learned a few facts about the Hyllus Giganteus, more commonly known as the jumping spider. Afterward, they got a chance to make their own spiders "jump" by creating catapults out of popsicle sticks, spoons, and rubber bands. Instead of real spiders, the students used plastic ones to launch toward a target they made. The goal was to try to get their plastic spider to land somewhere on their target. It wasn't as easy as it seemed!
